On the borders with Spain and home to some of the Algarve’s most tranquil beaches, the eastern Algarve has traditionally been a very well kept secret. The new motorways are bringing investment and development into this area, new and up-market residential areas, 4 and 5 star hotels and several new golf courses are emerging throughout the eastern Algarve.
One of Europe’s most important and idyllic nature reserve, The Ria Formosa Nature Park is located here. Comprising a system of sandy barrier islands enclosing tranquil blue lagoons, it is certainly worth a visit.
